ALTERGOTT
ALTERGOTT

She was born on September 28, 1947, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington D.C.
Sharon received an Associate of Arts Degree from Southern Colorado State College in Pueblo. She also earned a scholarship from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Music Education, where she played flute in the band and orchestra. Living out her passion for music, she also played flute in the Fort Collins Symphony and sang for many weddings and memorial services for friends and loved ones.
While Sharon planned to become an elementary school music teacher, fate took her in a different direction, and she spent her career in the publishing industry. Sharon was the first employee for Interweave Press in 1978 when Linda Ligon founded the business in her basement, where Sharon created the name for the first magazine “Handwoven.” She then focused on advertising sales, building the account base through relationships, driving growth beyond what she or Linda ever imagined. She retired with Linda noting, “Sharon has been the memory and conscience of Interweave going on 30 years.”
Sharon’s personal family life was rooted in her marriage to Jim Altergott who she met on a double date in Fort Collins in 1962. They were married in 1966. They lived in Pueblo at the beginning of their marriage then moved to Greeley where their daughter, Missy, was born. They then moved to Gallup, New Mexico, where their son Jamie was born. After moving back to Colorado to Fort Collins and Loveland, they spent much of their life in Johnstown, where both her children graduated high school. After that they moved to Windsor then back to Fort Collins where they settled.
Sharon is survived by her husband, James (Jim) Altergott of Fort Collins, and was the beloved mother of Melissa (Missy) Altergott currently of Greenwich, Connecticut, and James (Jamie) Altergott and mother in-law of Karen (Speedy) Altergott, currently of Waikoloa, Hawaii. She was also the loving grandmother of Elijah Altergott (predeceased) and Malina Kai Altergott.
