Roosevelt High School senior Katelyn Vela has been honored with the prestigious title of November Rotary Student of the Month, thanks to her outstanding dedication to her community and her commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by dementia.
Katelyn’s exceptional journey towards this recognition began with a heartfelt essay that resonated deeply with the members of the Johnstown-Milliken Rotary Club. In her essay, she wrote, “I’ve witnessed the terrors of dementia negatively impacting my family and my community. Seeing that there is no known cure, helping those who struggle with the disease is an important part of my life. I wish to help those in need. I wish to help them and their caretakers. This is why I have taken steps forward not only getting involved but getting my peers involved as well.”
