His memory will be cherished by the Flores Family: Lupina Ojeda Alvarez, Chelo Flores Alvarez, Rosita Blanco, Sandy Flores, Jose Luis and Maria, Tino and Denise, Richard and Geri, Irma and David, Norma and Rosemary.
Manuel is preceded in death by his parents, Theadora Blanco and Fortino Flores; his brother, Jose Guadalupe Flores; and his sisters, Rosalinda De Schmacher and Margarita Ruiz Flores.
He held a special place in his heart for his many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Manuel’s prayer began on October 25, 2024. His remains were brought back to the United States from Mexico. A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. November 21 at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnstown. A Celebration of Life reception will follow at the Johnstown Community Center.
A military funeral with honors and committal service will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver on November 22.
Manuel has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He graduated from the Marine Security Guard School in Washington, D.C. He reported for duty with the American Embassy in Saigon. He learned how to speak nine languages. He received a Purple Heart. He was a Gunnery Sergeant honorably discharged, with many acclamations. He served 18 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a Marine with honor and valor.
Some of his awards included the Joint Service Commendation Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation; Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal 4th Award; Service Medal 1STAR; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon 1STAR; Navy Rifle; and the Sharpshooter Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Manuel was inviting and easy-going. He had a young and carefree spirit. He loved to tell stories and share his experience. You never saw him without a smile on his face. He was always caring to his family and always willing to help them out whenever needed.
