Janice Dawn (Hill) Herrera, 67, of Johnstown passed away May 3, 2024, at home surrounded by family. She was born on March 11, 1957, in Neosho, Missouri, to Edwin Durham and Marah Jane (McWethy) Hill. She grew up in Littleton until 1972, when the family moved to their home in Johnstown.

Janice graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1975, where she met the love of her life, Mario Herrera. They were married on April 24, 1975. Together they had three children, Jane, Angela and Robert.

Janice was devoted to her family as a wife, mother and grammy. She drove a bus for Weld RE-5J for many years, worked as a CNA, graduated from the University of Northern Colorado, and began her teaching career. She taught English as a Second Language at Indian Peaks Elementary School in Longmont before retiring. She enjoyed gardening, baking, reading, watching the vast collection of birds around their farm, and especially watching her grandchildren in their sports and activities. She was very strong in her Catholic faith and always sacrificed to serve others. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist in Johnstown.

Survivors include her husband, Mario; children, Janey (Juan) Davenport, Angela (Fernando) Arreola and Robert (Nicole) Herrera; 10 grandchildren, Jalen (Nina) Davenport, Jaxon (Marina) Davenport, Jayna Davenport, Alejandro, Iliana, Aaron and An- dres Arreola and Liam, Aiden and Lilianna Herrera; two great-grandchildren, Raylee and Arlo Davenport; siblings, Judy (Dave) Huckins, Jim (Nicole) Hill, Jeff (Renea) Hill, Joan (Brian) Krayenhagen and John (Julia) Hill; as well as several brothers and sister in-laws; nieces and nephews; and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Jane Hill; and two grandchildren.

Janice’s Recitation of the Rosary was held May 14 at Our Lady of Valley Catholic Church in Windsor. Mass of Christian Burial was May 15 at Our Lady of the Valley with a reception following. Inurnment will be held at the Johnstown Cemetery at a later date.
