WAGGONER

Lucian James Waggoner passed away March 3, 2024, at Pathways Hospice. He was born August 20, 1936, in Arkansas to Oscar and Nellie Waggoner. He attended Pyatt High School in Arkansas where he enjoyed playing basketball, riding horses and working. After graduating from high school James traveled west, working a variety of jobs for ranchers and farmers in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas and Colorado. He was asked to manage the horse stables in Estes Park and did this for three years before acquiring the stables as the owner.

He married Therolyn Morgan on March 11, 1960, in Amarillo, Texas. Therolyn met him at the horse stables and they traveled between Estes Park and Amarillo until 1978, when they settled in Johnstown. He began his own construction business with Ed Simmons. He also raised and trained quarter horses for racing. He built and remodeled countless homes, barns and other buildings across Colorado and Wyoming.

He is survived by his twin sister, Lucy Adams, of Lebanon, Missouri; brother, Roland Waggoner, of South Carolina; daughters, Tara Winkler of Loveland and Tresa Waggoner of Johnstown; and grandchildren, Alexis Winkler, Theron Waggoner and Eleeza Waggoner.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2020; and a sister, Helen Bryant.

Lucian is remembered as determined, hardworking, honest, just, strong willed, intelligent, strong, a provider and ‘a true cowboy.’

No services are planned.
