MARTIN DEL CAMPO
Jose R. Martin del Campo of Milliken passed away on December 28, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Jose was born on July 4, 1935, in Mexico and attended schools there. He married Teresa de Jesus Vela in Piedras Negras, Coah, Mexico.
Jose (Joe) worked as a boiler operator for Great Western Sugar Company in Johnstown for over 30 years before the company was purchased by Coors Brewing Company. He continued working for Coors Brewing until he retired with over 40 years of employment. During his career, he served as a mentor and trainer to many fellow employees, known not only for his wealth of knowledge but also for his quick wit.
His hobbies included but were not limited to attending auctions looking for the best deal, carpentry, mechanics, dancer (especially salsa), raising livestock, farming, self-taught architect, remodeling of homes and traveling. At age 75, he fulfilled his “bucket list/childhood dream” of bullfighting.
He is survived by his children: son, Hector Martin del Campo (Shelley); daughters, Silvia Hayes (Randy) and Noemi Martin del Campo (Eldridge Frazier III); sister, Hilda Martinez; grandchildren, Milo Martin del Campo (Sofia), Mariah Martin del Campo (Aaron Lehr), Javier Martin del Campo, Ramiro Martinez (Roxanna) and Diego Martinez; great-grandchildren, Serenity, Penelope, Aniyah, Liliana and Roman; and many nieces and nephews both here in Colorado and Mexico.
He is preceded in death by his spouse, Teresa Martin del Campo; his parents, Nicolasa and Jose I. Martin del Campo; sisters, Beatriz Martin del Campo, Luz Maria Chavez and Odalmira Martin del Campo; and brother-in-laws, Cervando Chavez and Leroy Martinez.
A viewing and Recitation of the Rosary was held January 9 at Allnutt Funeral & Cremation in Greeley. Mass of Christian Burial was held January 10 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greeley, followed by burial at Johnstown Cemetery.
