Four years ago, freshman Aayla Deter and coach Jamie Leopold (Tafoya at the time) stood together at the state swim meet. Deter was the only qualifier that year for a fledgling Roosevelt swim team in its first season. That year Deter made the finals in both her events, placing in the top 20.
Last week, Deter competed in her final state meet and added another first to her already impressive resume. She became the first Roosevelt Rough Rider to ever make the finals podium at the CHSAA state meet…. In not one, but two events.
