Around Town

Last Friday, the Pioneer Ridge Elementary Student Council had a meaningful experience at the Weld County Food Bank. They toured the facility, learned about community needs, and contributed by bagging over 1,500 pounds of pinto beans for families facing food insecurity. With statistics showing that 1 in 3 children in Weld County are hungry, the food bank is facing a critical shortage. Join in supporting this vital resource by visiting Weldfoodbank.com. Together, we can make a difference! An apt message for this Thanksgiving week, and every week. Got a picture for Page 3? An item for Around Town? We would love to see them. Here’s what we’re thankful for…. We’re thankful for Johnstown and Milliken. Each has its own unique identity, and it’s our pleasure to bring “the first rough draft” of their history every week to our readers.

We’re thankful for our readers. When someone doesn’t get their paper, they don’t call us and say, “I didn’t get your paper,” they say, “I didn’t get my paper.” Articles are pasted into scrap books and stories are pulled out decades later and shown to children and grandchildren. We once ran a story about a local man who died. Years later his wife came in to renew her subscription and told us that sometimes late at night, when she misses her husband, she takes that story out and re-reads it.
