RHS play hits boards this weekend

November is expected to be a big month for the RHS Drama Department as they prepare for their upcoming play “The Servant of Two Masters” written by Carlo Goldoni and translated by Edward J Dent. Showtimes will November 14 and 15 at 7 p.m. and November 16 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., all presented at Roosevelt High School’s Performing Arts Center. Tickets can be purchased at the door or on the Home-Town app. Senior Jessica Balderson is a part of the upcoming play, cast as Truff aldino. She has been involved in Roosevelt Theatre, also known as Theodore’s Theatre Company, for all four years of her high school career, and has also been doing theatre in general for seven years now.

“My role has been very fun to learn and I’m truly excited,” Balderson said. “This play is a very silly and fun one. We have been working so hard to make this play something everyone will enjoy seeing.” Though Balderson enjoys playing a part in the drama community, she has experienced some struggles along the way. While involved in theatre, she said she has had trouble balancing it with other activities. “I want to be able to do sports and other performing arts and still fully put myself into the play,” she said. “With theatre in general, I think a struggle is just being confident enough to be silly or vulnerable and just act your role truly and fully. As high school students we can sometimes get worried about what others think of us, and in theatre one of the most important things is to just let that go and have fun. “As I’ve started to get larger roles, I have learned to both appreciate the skills I have and how to use them, as well as learning to accept the smaller roles and know that all of them are important to the show as a whole,” Balderson said. “So now I just love to be part of such an amazing thing,”
Jacob Aychman is one of the directors of the play. This is only his second year at Roosevelt, but previously he taught choir at Coal Ridge Middle School in Firestone.
