Around Town

Now that the Labor Day holiday is past the 2024 presidential race will really start heating up. You can get your presidential political fix at the Glenn A. Jones M.D. Memorial Library in Johnstown by checking out Johnstown resident Jim Compton’s signed material by Jimmy Carter at the library throughout the month of September.

Compton, who has lived in Johnstown for about 5 years, says he was inspired to begin his collection, when over 20 years ago, he visited a store in Atlanta that sold historical maps and autographs. He considers it a fun hobby and is still currently collecting. When asked what his favorite item in his Jimmy Carter collection was, he responded, “That’s a hard question. They all have significance to me. I have many of President Carter’s signed books because I lived in Atlanta and went to the Carter Center where he would sign newly published books.”
