Students given voice on School Board

Historically, local School Boards have been made up of individuals in the community who have the goal of helping the school system succeed. But they’ve always been adults making those decisions for youth. The Weld RE-5J School District is changing that – and giving students a voice – with a plan to incorporate student representation on the School Board.

Michael Wailes, current Board President, said although student members won’t have voting rights, they will actively be able to participate in all discussions and have the opportunity to ask questions to the staff, including the superintendent.
