Around Town

Kudos to the local police departments who responded to several school-related incidents in the past week. Johnstown Police were quickly on the scene last Friday when a bomb threat was called in regarding a school bus. The bus was stopped near Sticker Stadium, the students safely removed, and the bus and backpacks thoroughly searched. No explosives were found. Milliken Police also continue to investigate a recent incident where a student at Milliken Middle School brought a BB gun to school. According to officials, the gun was never removed from the student’s backpack where it was found.

Congratulations to Colby Community College sophomore Emily Davis on being named to the PTK All-Kansas Academic Team during the Annual Phi Theta Kappa Honors Luncheon on April 12 in Junction City. Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is the national honor society of the two-year college. The organization focuses on leadership, scholarship, service, and fellowship, connecting students to growth opportunities and potential transfer scholarships. Students must have at least a 3.5 GPA to be accepted.
