MILLIKEN WAY

June 10,1915 Editor: Otto L. Altvater Holdup Shoots Victim And Steals His Auto Sylvester Gregory, Would-be Assassin, Almost Succeeds In Attempt To Kill Karl Ingram Saturday Night But Is Soon Lodged Safely In Jail One of the most dastardly crimes ever perpetrated in this vicinity happened here last Saturday night when Sylvester Gregory shot Karl Ingram three times; in the face, arm and back, while the latter was driving him to Johnstown in his livery auto.

Gregory engaged Mr. Ingram to take him to the Stroh ranch, after arguing with him first to take him to LaSalle and back for a dollar. As they were speeding on their way to their destination and were abreast of the Russell milk station, Gregory’s hat blew off, either unintentionally or intentionally, but preferably the latter, Mr. Ingram stopped the car and Gregory stepped out on the right side to get the same, and came back on the left side with something in his hand.
