Roosevelt sophomore ‘promoted’ to colonel

JOHNSTOWN – In just his sophomore year at Roosevelt High School, Dallas Weinzirl is already a colonel.
It’s an honorary and unofficial title for Weinzirl, who earlier this month graduated from the World Wide College of Auctioneering. He’s already started his own business, DW Auctions.
As part of his training, he learned the “colonel” designation comes from Civil War lore.
When coins and other valuables were seized, “The colonels were the only ones allowed to auction off the items,” Weinzirl said. “That’s why auctioneers are called colonels.”
