Prior to presenting the awards, Re-5J Superintendent Martin Foster announced that January was “Board of Education Recognition Month” and thanked each member for their service. At the meeting, the board decided to spend about $70,000 on security equipment for the schools in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings in Connecticut.
