Barbara Martinez-Herrera

MARTINEZ-HERRERA

Barbara Martinez-Herrera, formerly of Johnstown, passed away Dec. 8, 2012, at her home in Thornton. She was 66.

She was born Nov. 14, 1946, in Denver, to Juan and Genevieve (Sanchez) Martinez. She attended schools in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School in 1964.

On Aug. 25, 1968, she married Manuel Herrera. In 1987, she moved away from Brighton and lived in Johnstown, Loveland, and Denver.

She was a very loving mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She loved to cook the “special favorite” dishes for her family and loved going with her family to yard sales and trips up the mountains.

She is survived by her children, Teresa Tafoya, Tommy Herrera, and Denise (Jody) Baerga, all of Thornton and daughter, Sharisa Guzman of Brighton; a sister, Rosie Chavez of Brighton; two brothers, George Martinez and Eddie Martinez, both of Brighton; six grandchildren, DeShaunn Hogeda, Carrissa Duran, Alicia Duran, Justin Baerga, Ryan Oliver and Graicen Diaz; and three great-grandchildren, Rudy Hogeda, Ceilanna Simpson and Malikai Simpson.

Visitation will be today (Dec. 13) at 5 p.m., followed by the Rosary Service at 7. All services will be held in Brighton at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home, which is handling the arrangements.
