CHEERFUL LEARNERS

Members of Cheerful Learners met Feb. 20 at the home of Charlene Nelson. President Barbara Sloan opened the meeting with the pledge to the flag and the club collect. She then gave several valentine and winter readings out of an old Ideals Magazine.

The secretary called roll and read the minutes of the previous meeting. Minutes were approved as read. The treasurer gave the financial report.

A thank you was read from the Johnstown Historical Society for our continued membership and also for our donation. The program on ghost towns was lifted from the newsletter, and members were urged to attend. Many brought gifts to be donated to the Woman’s Place. Sandra Hays will be delivering those when she returns.

Ruth Nelson reported Don doing well, and Ann Hughes reported husband Bob was a bit under the weather.

Lyn Russell gave the program on crocheted rag rugs. She showed many and then gave a test on presidents. Ruth Nelson was the winner and got to pick a rug from the many she showed.

The next meeting will be March19, at the home of Johnny Ullmann.

JOHNSTOWN-MILLIKEN ROTARY CLUB

The Johnstown-Milliken Rotary Club met at 7 a.m. last Thursday at Johnson’s Corner for its Feb. 16 meeting. Ken Grack gave the invocation and Torrin Williams led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Club President Colleen Flack led the group in the Four-Way Test.

Guests included Bible Baptist Church of Milliken Pastor Randy Mayer and his wife, Nancy. President Flack reported Pastor Mayer would be inducted as a member at the club’s March 1 meeting, and that his wife had also submitted an application for membership.
She will most likely be inducted at the same time as her husband. Another guest attending was Dave Wailes.

Club member Hillary Schefter provided the morning’s program. A professional harpist, Schefter spoke about her volunteer work, which is playing the harp in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Denver. She concluded her program with two pieces played on her harp.

On the third Thursday of each month, throughout the school year, the Johnstown-Milliken Rotary Club hosts the Bedtime Reading Program for pre-school and grade-school aged children. Children are invited to the Milliken Police Department at 6:30 p.m. They are read bedtime stories and enjoy making craft activities. Guest readers consist of local policemen, town officials, Santa Claus, hockey players, and even a clown. The program is co-organized with the Community Preschool and Head Start teachers. Local merchants support the program by supplying milk, cookies and pizza.

The Johnstown-Milliken Rotary Club meets 7 a.m. every Thursday at Johnson’s Corner. The board of directors meets the second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Milliken Police Department.
