JOHNSTOWN – The town’s municipal judge said he’ll rule within a week on the protest of the recall petition effort to remove Mayor Mark Romanowski after reviewing other recall cases in the state and considering testimony heard here Thursday.
At the conclusion of the about hour-long hearing held in the Town Council meeting room at Johnstown Town Hall, Michael Lazar said he has five business days to file his written ruling with Johnstown Town Clerk Diana Seele. Lazar was appointed by Johnstown Town Council to serve as the hearing officer in the protest lodged by Romanowski’s wife, Rebecca Romanowski.
About two dozen people on both sides of the issue turned out for the hearing Thursday morning. Romanowski filed the protest to challenge the validity of recall petitions that were recently circulated and submitted seeking removal of the mayor over disagreements regarding the downtown streetscape project that is currently under construction.
