JOHNSTOWN – No one said they tasted sea salt, heard the sounds of sails being hoisted, or felt the sonic shock of cannons firing as their vessels ventured between exotic islands.
Still, those sensations could be imagined in a tabletop game played by members of Roosevelt High School’s GEEK club (Gaming Enthusiasts & Experts Klub).
The club started earlier this school year, after Brian Wells, who teaches science at RHS, was asked to sponsor a gaming club.

Fencing queen –

Roosevelt's win streaks come at right time
JOHNSTOWN – Turning around their season at the right time, Roosevelt High School’s Rough Riders recently ended an eight-game losing skid and now are one game from tipping off the Class 4A Northern Conference basketball tournament.
Tuesday, they wrap up the regular season at home against Windsor, then start postseason play on Thursday (Feb. 11) on the road at a higher-seeded opponent.
League athletic directors will meet on Wednesday morning to determine the bracket for both boys and girls (keep reading for an update on the RHS Lady Riders).
Roosevelt entered Friday night’s home game against Mountain View in 14th place and would draw the league’s third-place team in the 16-school tournament – unless the Riders could improve their standing by prolonging their current win streak.
Incentive given to Boondocks
JOHNSTOWN – One of these days, kids will be bouncing around Boondocks.
Two years ago, Boondocks Fun Center Inc. had an amended design guideline and final plat approved by the Johnstown Council.
Plans are to build a 52,000 square-foot facility at the northeast corner of the Interstate 25 frontage road and Ronald Regan Boulevard near the 2534 Plaza. The fun park would feature all sorts of amusements and entertainment ranging from go-kart tracks, miniature golf, bowling, laser tag, along with a theatre, restaurant, and meeting center.
Milliken board approves public parking ordinance
MILLIKEN – Since the beginning of the new year, much of the business conducted during meetings of the Board of Trustees has either amended the municipal code or made arrangements to do so.
At the most recent meeting on Jan. 27, trustees approved an ordinance concerning the regulation of parking trailers and recreational vehicles on public property.
The intent is to keep town streets clear of trailers and RVs from parking there for long periods of time.
