JOHNSTOWN-MILLIKEN ROTARY CLUB
The Johnstown/Milliken Rotary Club met at 7 a.m. in Johnson’s Corner for its Sept. 5 meeting.
Roy Hucke gave the invocation, and Club President Jerry Dunn led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Four-Way-Test.
Guests included Robert Polan, Madison Buhre, and Jake McCarthy.
The club is kicking off this year’s Bedtime Reading Program at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday (Sept. 19) at the Milliken Police Department. This month’s reading will feature a Colorado Eagles hockey player who will read to the children and be available for questions and pictures. Domino’s Pizza of Johnstown will provide pizza. Ken Grack Mobile RV Repair will provide cookies and milk. This event is free and is geared toward pre-school to third grade.
Club member Dennis Reed said the Rotarians, on Sept. 28, would be out along Colorado Highway 60 picking up trash. Suggestions were given as to how to make the function more fun, including the most popular beverage container found, the most interesting item found, or the silliest hat worn.
This week’s program was presented by Buhre and McCarthy, students at Roosevelt High School, who were both recipients of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA). The award provides sponsorship to the annual RYLA leadership camp held each summer in Estes Park.
They shared their experiences from this year’s camp and brought along some very exciting news as well. Buhre announced she has organized a local Interact Club. Interact is part of the Rotary family of service organizations and is geared toward youth ages 12-18 who want to have a positive impact on their community. The formation of an Interact club was one of President Dunn’s goals for the year, and he said it best when he remarked, “This is a dream come true.”
The Johnstown/Milliken Rotary Club meets 7 a.m. each Thursday at Johnson’s Corner. The board of directors meets 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of the month at the Milliken Police Department, 1201 Broad.
