Under the influence of your cell phone Experts say driving and using gadgets like iPods, GPS   devices, cell phones is a public-safety epidemic; new Colorado law went into effect Tuesday

By Stephanie Hanes/ Christian Science Monitor

Put it dwn n drv.

Jennifer Smith, a Texas real estate agent, remembers when she considered her car an office, her cell phone a professional lifeline.

If it rang, she picked it up. If she thought of information to share, she dialed. She knew it wasn’t the best idea to chat while driving, of course, but it wasn’t illegal, and she didn’t want to lose clients. Besides, she figured, she was careful.

Students at Pioneer Ridge Elementary School were captivated by Perry Conway handling a large snake during Tuesday’s assembly. Conway is a regular visitor to schools in the Johnstown-Milliken Re-5J district and is scheduled to visit Letford Elementary in Johnstown throughout the day today (Dec. 3) for another wildlife program.

Here’s a “thankful” story for you … not. Johnstown reader Alisha Rushing told us her son, U.S. Army Corporal Matthew Lorimer, was home for R&R while serving in Iraq. She said he was returning to Iraq and landed in Kuwait on Thanksgiving Day, after traveling for close to 48 hours. While there, he was charged for his Thanksgiving Day dinner.
“As his mother, I found this to be totally OUTRAGEOUS,” Alisha wrote us. “As a PATRIOT, I find this UNACCEPTABLE that ANY AMERICAN soldier would have to pay for a meal on a holiday as important as Thanksgiving Day, never mind the ones that are putting their lives on the line daily, and away from their families.” Click here to read more.

WINDSOR – Wrestling fans filled Reg Figal Gym to near capacity here Thursday night, as second-ranked Roosevelt High School visited third-ranked Windsor in a Class 4A Northern Conference dual.

Roosevelt ripped Windsor, 63-9, in last year’s season-opening meet. But with a clean slate to start this season, even though some of the Wizards' regulars were missing from the lineup for this year's lidlifter, fans anticipated a much closer contest.
