Johnstown was among the political forefront Tuesday, when Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney spoke at a campaign rally in front of more than 500 people at RV America, just south of Johnson’s Corner.
And the event certainly had a local flavor. Santiago’s Restaurant made and handed out nearly 200 free breakfast burritos – courtesy of the Romney campaign, said business co-owner Wendy Montoya. She and her husband, Lee, were kept busy before and after the speech, which lasted about 20 minutes.
Roosevelt High School junior Hunter Searle, of Johnstown, sat onstage only feet from Romney as he delivered his speech. Searle was part of a Boy Scout contingent serving as the color guard, and even got to meet Mitt.

When he isn’t practicing law for communities like Johnstown, Attorney Russ Anson is behind the camera taking photographs. This one is among those currently on display in Fort Collins as part of the Center for Fine Art Photography’s “Portraits” exhibit – one of 60 chosen from more than 2,500 entries. Anson took the photo of the couple in the small town of Gill, northeast of Greeley. “The couple in the photograph has virtually become an integral part of their environment,” Anson wrote in his artist’s statement. “They are in their 80s and are in the final stages of their life, just as the community that they live in is in the final stages of its life.” The show runs until Feb. 25, with an artists’ and public reception Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Do you have a picture for Page 3?
