Band ‘fares’ well in Pueblo The Roosevelt High School Marching Band traveled to Pueblo last Saturday and competed in the Colorado State Fair Parade contest. It was a long hot day, but the band gave a tremendous effort and came away with the first-place trophy in its 1A/2A division. Roosevelt’s band has been going to the Colorado State Fair Parade since at least 1997, but RHS Principal John Bruce thinks Rough Rider bands have been going even longer than that: since about 1992 or ’93. During that time, the RHS band has had many second- and third-place finishes, but this is the first time it has come away with the top trophy. “This is a great start to the band’s competitive season,” RHS Band Director John Balderson said. “We hope to build upon this success over the next couple of months.” If you would like more information about the RHS band program, call Balderson at 587-6115, or e-mail jbalderson@weldre5j.k12.co.us. JOHNSTOWN – A new offense that was supposed to create big things to the outside didn’t quite work Friday night at Peterson Field.

And while he mentioned during the game that he’s generally known for “three yards and a cloud of dust,” Roosevelt High School Coach Ed Eastin didn’t have his team revert to that tactic.

Nor did the Rough Riders throw the ball that much in their season-opening game against Platte Valley.

JOHNSTOWN – Fort Morgan had a decade of soccer experience heading into Thursday’s match at George Hall Field, where Roosevelt High School’s Rough Riders entered their first-ever varsity competition.

RHS played a junior varsity schedule last season and did win 10 games, but in their only matchup against a varsity squad, the Riders lost 10-0 to Denver South.

Opening on its home pitch against the Mustangs, Roosevelt could only hope for the best.

Trustees take stand on ballot issues

MILLIKEN – Election season got underway last month with party primary elections that determined candidates for public offices in the upcoming General Election.

There are, however, other items that should concern registered voters when they cast their ballots on Nov. 2.

That is why the Board of Trustees unanimously approved a resolution opposing Proposition 101 and Amendments 60 and 61.
