MILLIKEN – The living room is tidy, the way she kept it over the years. She loved playing cards. Any type of game you can think of, she’d want to be dealt in.
When she played cards, that’s what she was there to do. She knew the rules to her favorite, Pitch, like she knew the names of her four grandchildren: Cody, Ryan, Erin and Beau. Her focus always the game at hand – there was no time to chat or tell stories.
In the living room of her home, which was bought for $800 in 1943, grandson Cody Farmer and daughter Karen Farmer sit on the couch along the wall. Her son Michael sits in a recliner – on his left his wife, Sherry, sits. Rounding out the group is longtime friend Lois Ann Onorato.

Strong in academics, athletics, and admiration by others, Remmington Reinick was working on becoming an elementary educator, much like other members of his extended family.
Reinick’s mother, Tania Reinick, teaches kindergarten at Letford Elementary School in Johnstown. His grandfather, the late Dr. Ken Fritz, was superintendent of schools in the Johnstown-Milliken Re-5J District from 1977-84.
A member of the 2011 graduating class at Roosevelt High School, Reinick was killed in an automobile accident Monday morning. He was 20.
Services are tomorrow (June 21) at 10 a.m. in the Roosevelt High School Auditorium.

JOHNSTOWN – They’re called the Rangers, named after the Major League Baseball team from Texas.
During their game June 12 at Diamond Field in Windsor, right-handed pitcher Elijah Landers took a page out of Rangers’ legend and Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan’s book and pitched a no-hitter.
Landers’ dad and coach, Joe Landers, said his son pounded the strike zone all game with his two-seam and four-seam fastballs. Elijah can throw a knuckleball, slider, and three-six curveball, but being a fundamental minded coach, Landers said he wants his son to master his fastball before breaking out his off-speed stuff.

GREELEY – There’s nothing more typical for a father and son to play catch – or even better, to catch a ballgame together.
But it’s different for Jerry Hildreth Sr. and his son, Jerry Hildreth Jr., of Johnstown. When they go to the ballpark, they’re there to coach the Greeley Grays.
Atypical is it’s the younger Hildreth who’s head coach, having been named that back in January.

Elvis was an enigma – an upper echelon talent, deserving of VIP protection, who once fantasized about becoming an undercover agent.
Sorry, I was being a nerd there, playing my favorite new word game: Speakeasy.
I didn’t invent the game. My Big Brother did. And I’m trying to win a free, all-expenses paid trip to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Paul Acuna trial begins Monday
The Johnstown Breeze
Paul Acuna goes on trial Monday in Greeley, and says he’s ready, saying, “All I’ve wanted the whole time is to tell my side of the story. Twelve people now have to decide if my heart tells truth.”
Acuna, who grew up in Milliken and formerly owned Paul’s Funeral and Cremation Service in Greeley, faces felony and misdemeanor theft charges – including theft from at-risk adults – related to “pre-need” plans he sold individuals and then allegedly failed to refund, or make arrangements for another funeral home to fulfill, when he closed his business and left the state in March 2012.
Johnstown Police to create fitness policy

JOHNSTOWN – Cop shows on television invariably have a policeman chasing a bad guy for an interminable distance on foot.
The chase usually ends with an out-of-breath criminal caught by an officer who hasn’t even broken a sweat.
It’s a testament to law enforcement officers’ attempts to keep in condition.
To improve the readiness standards of physical fitness for the Johnstown Police Department, Johnstown Council at its meeting Monday unanimously approved an agreement for technical assistance services provided by Proactive Physical Therapy and Exercise Center of Fort Collins.
